Pilates is a mat-based exercise method focussed on developing core strength. It is best learnt in a systematic manner to first develop the technique for core muscle activation with the beginner classes before progressing to the more complex and dynamic intermediate exercises. The slow mindful manner in which the exercises are performed can train concentration and this, coupled with the attention to breath can provide space and time for the body to unwind and release.
My style of teaching brings anatomical knowledge and ideas from manual bodywork therapy to inform lessons and develop themes which can be explore throughout a course. Pilates can be tailored to suit most needs from those with injuries or other structural issues to those looking to cross-train or even those just looking to take an hour out of a hectic week for themselves!
